Message from the Presidency of Danish University

Higher education is recognized as a vital instrument for acquiring knowledge and awareness, serving the advancement of scientific and cultural development within societies. The mission of a university in any nation is to educate human resources capable of driving transformation and realizing national goals and aspirations. Academic institutions are thus entrusted with nurturing enlightened, knowledgeable, and specialized individuals with free and creative thinking, so they may contribute to progress across all dimensions of society and fulfill national objectives.

Danish University, in line with its national mission, is firmly committed to cultivating skilled and conscious professionals for the sake of national growth and development. The leadership of Danish University, through the formulation of its five-year strategic plan, seeks to establish credibility at both the national and regional levels. Accordingly, the University pursues its strategic objectives through initiatives such as enhancing faculty capacity, expanding cooperation with academic institutions and national research centers, becoming a recognized university at the national level, developing bachelor’s programs in diverse fields, and establishing master’s degree programs.

The strength of any academic institution is directly linked to the scholarly level and capabilities of its faculty. Therefore, one of Danish University’s priorities is to create opportunities for faculty development and provide greater facilities for academic growth. For instance, offering study opportunities and facilitating access to master’s and doctoral programs for faculty members holding bachelor’s degrees are among the measures taken by this institution. It is envisioned that within the next five years, the majority of Danish University’s faculty members will hold master’s and doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees. Furthermore, the University organizes workshops and seminars in various fields of education to enhance academic capacity and develop faculty skills, alongside programs aimed at elevating academic ranks.

For an academic institution to achieve national credibility, it must establish effective connections with other scientific and research bodies. Such collaborations, often formalized through memoranda of understanding, enable institutions to work together for mutual benefit, fostering scientific growth and progress. In this regard, Danish University has already signed cooperation agreements with several governmental and private institutions, which have significantly contributed to its academic development. Strengthening these partnerships is a key priority in the University’s five-year strategic plan.

Each year, a considerable number of students graduate from Afghanistan’s universities and enter the job market. However, many young graduates face challenges in securing employment and remain unable to earn an income for extended periods. One major reason for this issue is the lack of alignment between academic curricula and labor market demands. The content and structure of academic programs often fail to meet the needs of the job market, leaving graduates unable to address economic challenges. To resolve this problem, Danish University has undertaken numerous initiatives and continues to develop new programs. By establishing connections with educational centers, industries, and the labor market, and by revising its academic curricula, the University seeks to train specialists whose skills match market requirements. Through harmonizing curricula with labor market needs, fostering scientific research, and enhancing student competencies, Danish University aims to prepare innovative and entrepreneurial graduates.

Another challenge facing undergraduate students in Afghanistan is the continuation of studies at the master’s and doctoral levels. Most universities in the country lack the academic capacity to offer master’s programs, which has led to a decline in the overall level of knowledge in society. Danish University, therefore, has planned to establish master’s programs within the next five years.
